To more accurately assess the thermal safety performance of lithium batteries, researchers desire to conduct thermal runaway tests on lithium batteries in an adiabatic experimental environment. The battery adiabatic calorimeter tracks battery temperature changes and dynamically adjusts the environmental temperature to eliminate the temperature difference between the battery and the environment, achieving thermal dynamic closure of the system from a technical standpoint. In this adiabatic testing environment, any temperature changes in the battery are necessarily caused by its own heat absorption or release. Therefore, the Large Battery Adiabatic Calorimeter can accurately determine key parameters during the battery’s thermal runaway process.

The Large Battery Adiabatic Calorimeter not only induces battery thermal runaway through programmed temperature rise and other thermal abuse methods but also conducts electrical abuse experiments such as overcharging, overdischarging, and external short-circuiting, as well as mechanical abuse experiments like nail penetration and compression. It can measure data related to thermal runaway and more intuitively observe experimental phenomena through the built-in camera. Additionally, this series of instruments can perform thermal runaway gas generation tests to obtain data on gas generation rates and quantities.
